REVIEW

The Minisforum EliteMini UM890 Pro is a powerful small PC with a powerful AMD Ryzen 9 8945HS APU and Radeon 780M iGPU. It is incredibly fast and has good cooling.
At medium details, it offers good performance for office and multimedia apps as well as light gaming.
An external GPU can be connected for even greater performance because of OCuLink.

Even though its two USB4 ports only achieved 20 GBit/s during our test, the rest of its connectivity is equally impressive. One of the PC’s greatest advantages is its cooling system, which operates incredibly silently even when it is fully loaded.
It uses about the same amount of power as its rivals. All things considered, the EliteMini UM890 Pro is designed for demanding users who appreciate a very quiet system and provides powerful performance inside a small case.
The Minisforum EliteMini UM890 Pro features a sturdy case made of high-quality materials, an AMD Ryzen 9 8945HS (8C/16T) processor, modern connectivity via USB4 and OCuLink, the ability to power up to four displays simultaneously, powerful and quiet cooling, active SSD and RAM cooling, DDR5 RAM support up to 96 GB, and WLAN performance. Cons include the following: only one storage device can be installed (when using the OCuLink connection), USB4 only at 20 GBit/s, potential issues during 4K60 video playback, and a limited number of BIOS options. The Mini UM890 Pro is currently priced at $729.

Verdict – The AMD Ryzen 9 8945HS is really fast with good cooling Specifications Case and connectivity Performance – AMD Ryzen 9 8945HS optionally at up to 70 watts Emissions – Perfect balance between performance and volume Power management. Alternatives compared The Minisforum EliteMini UM890 Pro uses an AMD Ryzen 9 8945HS and fits seamlessly into Minisforum’s portfolio of high-performance mini pcs\. Visually, the EliteMini UM890 Pro is reminiscent of the EliteMini UM780 XTX, but does without the LED panel and the stand, which is a sensible decision.
Modern hardware and minor case modifications demonstrate that, unlike many other manufacturers, Minisforum does more than simply install new hardware into an already-existing case.

The Minisforum EliteMini UM890 Pro is comparable to the UM780 XTX, especially in terms of size and material selection.
Its construction quality is flawless, and the manufacturer made a wise choice by forgoing RGB. There are numerous connections available, including two USB4 ports that support PCIe 4.
The device’s scope of delivery includes a 120-watt power supply unit, an HDMI cable, a VESA mounting plate with mounting material, a quick start guide, and an optional OCuLink adapter.
Maintenance The magnetic lid on the Minisforum EliteMini UM890 Pro makes opening it simple.
To get to the parts, you must take out the cooling unit, and you must be careful because of the short cables.
Replacing the SSD and RAM modules is simple. An OCuLink adapter can be used with slot number two.
Sustainability The compact packaging of the PC is made mostly of cardboard and paper, with some foam added for protection. No particular sustainability initiatives have been highlighted by the manufacturer. Although it’s not strictly required, the accessories are packaged in plastic bags.
AMD Ryzen 9 8945HS performance, optional at up to 70 watts The Minisforum EliteMini UM890 Pro has a fast 1-TB SSD, 32 GB DDR5 RAM, and the AMD Ryzen 9 8945HS (8C/16T).
Although there are no substitutes, a less expensive Ryzen 7 8845HS variant would undoubtedly be intriguing.
In performance mode, Minisforum gives the processor a little more power—up to 70 watts—which can be adjusted in the BIOS. Processor options for UEFI The AMD Ryzen 9 8945HS with 8 Zen4 cores powers the Minisforum EliteMini UM890 Pro. According to the Cinebench R15 Multi endurance test, the APU runs at 65 watts for brief periods of time and 54 watts over an extended period of time.
Its single-core performance hardly improved during the multi-thread benchmarks, and its high power consumption became especially noticeable.
The BIOS’s performance mode raises its TDP to 70 watts. However, this results in a significant increase in the noise emissions from the device. We don’t advise using performance mode because the factory settings provide a decent trade-off between noise development and performance.
